Can I control what my child downloads from the web?

Downloading is the process of transferring a file stored on another computer to your computer. AOL has thousands of files to download: text documents, pictures, sounds, videos, and entire computer programs. FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is a method of transferring files over the internet.

Although you cannot prevent the download of files from web pages, you can use Download Controls to control the ability to download files from AOL software libraries and FTP transfer sites.

To control file downloads from AOL and FTP:

  1. Go to AOL Parental Controls or sign on to AOL and visit AOL Keyword: Parental Controls.
  2. Click on the screen name for whom you are setting the download controls.
  3. Click the More Options button at the top of the controls window and select Download Controls from the drop-down menu.
  4. Click in the boxes next to the download options to make your selections.
