Can I control what my child downloads from AOL?

Yes. AOL has thousands of files to download, including text documents, pictures, sounds, videos, and entire computer programs. You can use the download controls to block your child's screen name from downloading files from AOL software libraries.

To use download controls:

  1. Go to or sign on to AOL and visit AOL Keyword: Parental Controls.
  2. Click on the screen name for whom you are setting the download controls.
  3. Click the More Options button at the top of the controls window and select Download Controls from the drop-down menu.
  4. Click in the Block FTP Downloads available at AOL Keyword: FTP and/or Block AOL Software Library Downloads box to block or allow software and FTP downloads.
  5. Click Save.

Note: To block the downloading of files attached to email, use Email Controls.
