Cannot Access the AOL Pictures Service

You may not be able to the AOL Pictures service for any one of several reasons. After trying the first solution, check to see if you can access AOL Pictures. If you are still unable to access AOL Pictures, continue using the suggested solutions until the problem is fixed.

Delete the Temporary Internet Files and Cookies

When you visit Websites, they download pictures and files to your computer in order to display properly. These files are known as browser cache or Temporary Internet files. Eventually these files may become damaged and cause pages to load incorrectly, or they may just build up and need to be cleared.

To delete the Temporary Internet files and cookies:
  1. Click the Start button, select Programs or All Programs, then click Internet Explorer.
  2. Click the Tools menu, then click Internet Options....
  3. Click the Delete Files... button.
  4. Click the Delete all offline content box to place a check mark in it, then click the OK button.
  5. In the Temporary Internet Files section, click the Settings... button.
  6. Click the View Files... button.
  7. Click the Edit menu, then click Select All.
  8. Click the File menu, then click Delete.
  9. Click the Yes button.
  10. Click the X to close the Temporary Internet Files window.
  11. On the Settings window, click the OK button.
  12. On the Internet Properties window, click the OK button.

 


Turn off Web Graphics Compression

Compressed graphics load faster. However, compressed graphics are lower quality, and when the AOL® software compresses graphics, it uses a file format that may not be readable by other applications. To keep the file in the original format, do not compress the graphics.


To turn off Web graphics compression in AOL 9.0:

  1. On the AOL toolbar, click the Settings icon.
  2. On the Essentials tab, click the Internet (Web Browser) Settings link.
  3. In the Web Graphics section, choose the Never compress graphics option by clicking it.
  4. Click the Save button.
  5. Click the X in the upper right corner to close the Preferences window.

 

To turn off Web graphics compression in AOL 8.0:
  1. On the AOL toolbar, click the Settings icon, then click Preferences.
  2. Click the Internet Properties (WWW): link.
  3. Click the AOL Browser tab.
  4. In the Web Graphics section, choose the Never compress graphics option by clicking it.
  5. Click the OK button.
  6. Click the X in the upper right corner to close the Preferences window.

 

To turn off Web graphics compression in AOL 7.0:
  1. On the AOL toolbar, click the Customise icon, then click Preferences.
  2. Click the Internet Properties (WWW): link.
  3. Click the Web Graphics tab.
  4. In the Web Graphics section, choose the Never compress graphics option by clicking it.
  5. Click the OK button.
  6. Click the X in the upper right corner to close the Preferences window.
