Active scanning

Active scanning scans your computer automatically to look for new instances of spyware and adware that are being loaded into memory. If something new is detected, AOL Spyware Protection 2.0 will then alert you with a pop-up message, offering to disable or allow the new item.

Enable or disable active scanning

In cases where you have already disabled a certain spyware application, you now have the ability to re-enable the application at a later stage.

To enable or disable active scanning:

  1. On the Windows desktop, double-click the AOL Spyware Protection icon.

Note: If there is no icon present, click the Start button, select Programs or All Programs, click the AOL folder, then click AOL Spyware Protection.

  2. On the left of the Spyware Protection window, click the Settings tab.
  3. Click the Actively Scan For New Potential Spyware box to place a check mark in it (to enable) or clear it (to disable).
  4. Click the X in the upper right to close the AOL Spyware Protection window.
