AOL Help: Important information for AOL members using Windows XP

AOL has identified a number of issues regarding how Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (XPSP2) interacts with AOL software.

If you are using Windows XP SP2, we strongly recommend you download the patch below, otherwise:

  • You might be alerted to other connectivity problems by a small yellow warning icon that appears in your Windows system tray (at the bottom right of your screen).
  • You may experience disconnects when you attempt to download large files.

Downloading the XPSP2 patch:

Please sign on to your main AOL software and visit AOL Keyword: WinXPSP2

If you are not sure whether you have Windows XPSP2 installed:
Open My Computer from your Windows Start menu, then click Help, followed by About Windows. Here you will see which version of Windows you are running, including whether you have XPSP2 installed.

If you have not yet installed Windows XPSP2:
We recommend that you install it using a CD. You can find out more about XPSP2 and order your free CD by visiting: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/default.mspx

The next time you sign on to AOL after Windows XPSP2 has been installed, you will receive a message asking you to install the AOL patch.
